What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is defined as constantly varied, functional movements, performed at a high intensity.  This is a program that will make anyone and everyone more generally physically prepared (GPP) for real life situations.  Members will increase their ability to perform the 10 general physical skills (cardio, strength, stamina, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, accuracy, agility and balance) more effectively to achieve optimum physical competency.  You are as fit as you are competent in each of these ten skills.

Constantly varied workouts makes every day at CrossFit Rhythm fun, exciting, challenging and unpredictable.  Routine is the enemy.  We specialize in not specializing.  The only time you will do the same workout more than once is to test and retest your level of fitness and progression.

The WOD’s or (workout of the day) are comprised of movements that a person might perform on a daily basis and that are found in real world situations.  These functional movements like squatting, lifting, carrying, climbing, throwing, pulling, pushing, pressing, running, etc. are all natural safe movements that when well-trained are essential for being able to move large loads, long distances, quickly (Force x Distance / Time = Power).

The high intensity performed in each workout is relative to everyone’s personal make up.  Intensity = power and the more power output you can develop during a workout, the more fit you can become.  Don’t get this confused with the misconception that CrossFit is all about doing things unsafe just to achieve an insane level of intensity.  The level of intensity that an individual is expected to put out during each workout is only what is challenging to that individual while maintaining safe and proper form.  Push yourself to your max but know your limits.

Nobody is the same so every workout will be challenging but also scalable to fit the needs of every type of member, regardless of their goals.  We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

  1. Hi guys, this is Katie Boltz and I won a free month in May during your promotion was wondering if I can attend the 5 am class with that.

    1. Hi Katie! The free month is for the Beginners CrossFit class which runs every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6pm. It also is good for the “Bring a Friend” partner workout on Saturday mornings at 9am.

  2. I would like to take a class on Monday evening to try out your place. I have previously taken classes at another location. I’m a little out of shape but know all the movements. Could I take the Monday 6PM class or would you recommend Tuesday Beginners? Thanks

    1. Hi Zach, sorry for the delayed response. I just got notified of this message now. If you have knowledge of the movements and are familiar with CrossFit then you can drop into any class you want. I hope to see you in class! Take care!

  3. Hello,
    Looking for a crossfit gym w some masters competitor coaches ….I live in reading and have visited south mountain cf , was hoping to not have a commute . I have also trained privately and was hoping your gym might have that option too . I’d like to drop in today or tomorrow and visit and catch a class .

    1. Hi Kim! I just wanted to let you know that I will not be in tonight and the best time for you to catch a class and chat a bit would be tomorrow night for the 5 or 6pm classes.

  4. Hi, My name is Cody. I live in Hamburg and work at Fort IndianTown Gap. I have thought about going to the dark side and trying out crossfit. I have a couple questions after reading the information on your web page, maybe I can get some more answers before I sign up.
